Picture Word Match air

Real and nonsense air words

air pictures for writing air words - we have been working on segmenting and writing words. Children find a picture, segment the word then use their sound mat to help find the correct letters to match each sound. They point to each letter sound as they say it then they use their mat to help write the word. We try to pick up on correcting letter formation as they write. I have provided a clip on segmenting words for those of you who are unsure of this skill.

Subitising video for parents/carers

Subitising dot cards - hide a car under a cloth. Lift cloth to reveal the card for around 2 or 3 seconds (don't allow time for your child to count the dots - just to see and recognise the pattern). Get your child to display on their fingers how many dots they could see. Check by looking at dots on card. Point out any patterns - eg 2 and 2.
